Pride of Sussex - Public Art Sculpture

Pride of Sussex Public Art SculptureMuch of Victoria’s work is commissioned by private collectors but in addition to this she also works with corporations and councils to produce public art pieces across the country. A recent project saw Victoria working in the beautiful village of North Mundham in West Sussex, where she was commissioned by Stonewater Ltd to create a Willow feature for a new housing development in the village.

Victoria visited the local school to run a willow workshop and discussed her ideas for the new sculptures that would be located in the green spaces within the development; just over the lane from the school.

The selected design was based on the county flower of Sussex named ‘ The a Pride of Sussex’ these Clover type wild flowers grow on the chalky grassland of the Sussex Downs. Victoria created a strong steel armature onto which she wove the willow grown on levels in Somerset.

Stonewater were a great company to work with as they are great ambassadors for public art and include it in many of their developments. The public art gives the new schemes a sense of place and celebrate the diversity of the landscape.

The sculptures were installed by Victoria and the building  team and were unveiled at the housing launch in mid July. Victoria was delighted to discuss the project and the concept behind the design to the councillors of North Mundham who chose willow as their preferred medium for the public artwork.
