Woven Willow, Steel and Bronze Wire Sculptures by Devon Artist Victoria Westaway
Victoria was delighted to return to RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2015 with her latest commission 'Family' a series of figures for the Great Pavilion. The Sculptures formed part of Tale Valley Nursery stand. This gorgeous woodland garden setting received a Gold Medal and was admired by the RHS Judges who loved the story behind the design. This original garden celebrates the work of the Momentum Charity which supports children and the families of children undergoing treatment for cancer.
The sculptures represent a family enjoying a beautiful woodland walk and capturing sight of a willow owl (the charities icon) high on a branch. These sculptures stood amongst trees and shade tolerant plants from the award winning Tale Valley Nursery whose RHS Chelsea Flower Show stand has proven yet again to delight and inspire.
'Family' was created using Black Maul willow from the Somerset levels, the willow sculpture works harmoniously in the natural environment and offers dynamic interest throughout the seasons, long after the blooms of Chelsea have faded. The figures are free standing on a steel plate using a steel armature which maintains the form of the willow for years to come. Victoria loved creating 'Family' and is delighted that this work will be helping to raise awareness as well as funds for the charity. Now the Chelsea Flower show has finished Momentum have auctioned off the sculptures and raised a brilliant £5,000. You can find out more about the wonderful work of Momentum by contacting the Momentum Charity.
